DOUBLE BACK
A new EP by jack broza out February 18th, 2022
Upcoming Release:
The songs on Double Back drop the listener in mid-conversation. An attempt to console a friend when you find yourselves lost in the woods; a moment of panic when your partner says “can I ask you something?”; a mantra repeated to oneself throughout the day “it’s only so if I make it so”; the lyrics sketch scenes that are at once hyper-specific and familiar.
Forgoing his typically dense compositional style, Broza allows his words to sit over sparse but sonically detailed production. Bursts of unexpected orchestration punctuate select images; a murmuring bass clarinet and warbling flutes set the wooded scene in ‘Kissing Trees.’ A distant harmonium soothes the mantra-chanting narrator in ‘Say It Again.’
Double Back is Broza’s third EP of the past year and his most carefully rendered. The third track, ‘Farther Than You Sound’ precedes the EP release as a single (out 12.9.21).

Recent release:
A “massacre” of felled trees on an afternoon walk; a “positive interaction with a stranger on the internet;” a “little free library” filled with canned soup instead of books — the detailed lyrics on Some Slant Rhyme I Wrote look for beauty in small things, minutiae that cut through the monotony of routine. Ornately orchestrated and meticulously mixed, record augments an indie-folk soundworld with crackling synths, ghostly vocal echos, and ambient-noise transitions.
Under the Radar Magazine wrote that the EP “flows masterfully and makes up an intriguing and accessible structure…. Of particular note is Broza’s uniquely jazzy approach to acoustic guitar. . . his composition and songwriting are sights to behold.”
Featuring Sarah Rossy on backup vocals and Griffin Brown on drums. Mastered by Alan Silverman.
